Bio

I earned my B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and continued my studies at the University of Delaware, where I completed my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. My research interests lie at the intersection of synthetic biology and microbial ecology. During my doctoral work, I focused on the enzymatic biosynthesis of non-standard amino acids (nsAAs) and engineered microbial systems to depend on these nsAAs, ultimately using nsAA production and utilization to control co-culture growth dynamics. In the Cordero Lab, I am expanding cellular modification technologies to investigate how changes in cellular function impact microbial community dynamics. I apply my expertise in metabolic engineering, protein engineering, and synthetic biology to explore diverse microbial behaviors within community settings.
