I am passionate about marine sugars and the bacteria which degrade them. My lab looks at them across many different scales from production to bacterial degradation. We are particularly interested in the complex, anionic sugars that resist and potentially inhibit bacterial degradation, meaning that they persist in the ocean and sequester carbon over long timescales.
